Parents’ Consultation Evenings

Please remember that your parents’ evening reply slip (with your preferred date) must be returned by this this morning at the latest. Parents’ evenings will be held tomorrow (Tuesday 25th) from 4.30-7pm and Wednesday (26th) from 3.45-6pm. We look forward to seeing you there.

The Jungle V.I.Ps!

Today, children from Reception to Year 6 had great fun watching a fantastic production of ‘The Jungle Book’. We howled with laughter at the monkeys and hid behind our hands whenever Shere Khan appeared! Following the show, Year 6 attended a workshop in which the actors taught them all about stagecraft…lights, sound, costume, characterisation, voices, use of technology and lots more. Year 6 are currently studying the ‘Just So’ stories, so they were able to share their knowledge about Rudyard Kipling. They knew that the inspiration for writing ‘The Jungle Book’ (which was written over 100 years ago!) came from Kipling’s childhood in India. Year 6 are going to use what they found out to stage their own versions of the ‘Just So’ stories during assembly, so we will look forward to watching those!

Ukulele Family Jam!

Would you like to learn how to play the ukulele? Come and have fun at our weekly FAMILY JAM! No experience necessary. All instruments are provided, all ages welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Starting Tuesday 2nd October at Woodhall. We can’t wait to have a Woodhall ukulele band (to join our steel pan players, drummers and guitarists)!

Woodhall Boxing Club

Just a reminder that we have a couple of spaces left in our Key Stage 2 Boxing Club. This takes place every Monday from 3.30-4.30pm and is free of charge. Jason, our boxing coach, works with the children on a range of skills including running, skipping, footwork and mobility, and eye-to-hand coordination. Boxing improves balance, co-ordination and is a great boost for children’s self-confidence. Why not give it a try?!

Exciting Music News!

This morning we had a special visitor in assembly. Beth Mead from Hertfordshire Music Service came to introduce the KS2 Children’s Singing Club, which will run every Tuesday in term time at All Saints Church in Gosforth Lane. You don’t need to sign up – just turn up! We’ve got some exciting opportunities in music this year. Our steel drums and guitar lessons have already started, and very soon we will be offering weekly ukulele family fun sessions and djembe drumming evenings! Look out for further information.

Sponsored Scoot

We have had an AMAZING day today taking part in our sponsored scoot. A huge thank you to all of the family and friends who came in to watch, and all those of you who had a go yourselves! Please help your child to collect their sponsor money and bring it to school over the next few days. We are hoping to raise enough money to buy a set of scooters and get the whole school scooting during lunchtimes and PE sessions. Thanks to James from ScootFit (many of you met him today) whose boundless energy and enthusiasm made today such a success!

Calling all Gardeners!

Can you spare any time to help with the gardening in our Nursery/Reception outside area? Just an hour a week of basic gardening would be really helpful. If you can spare some time to help, please let Ms.Leo, Mrs Roby or Sue/Nikki in the school office know. Thanks!

Class Assemblies

Please check our ‘Diary Dates’ page for this term’s class assembly dates/times. Year 1 and Year 2 will not hold a class assembly this term as they will be busy rehearsing for their Christmas production!

‘Roald Dahl Day’ 2018

We celebrated ‘Roald Dahl Day’ in style, with a special assembly (Mr.Hancock read us a Revolting Rhyme!), classroom activities and a special raffle. Well done to everyone who dressed up for the day. At Woodhall, we had 21 children dressed as ‘Mr/Mrs Fox’, 26 as ‘Matilda’, 18 as ‘Charlie’ or ‘George’, 15 as ‘Willy Wonka’, 7 as the ‘BFG’ or ‘Sophie’ and we even had a bottle of ‘Marvellous Medicine’, a ‘Golden Ticket’ and a ‘Giant Peach’ amongst many others! Congratulations to Charlie and Brooke, who each won a set of Roald Dahl books.

Get ready for our SPONSORED SCOOT!

Last term, we all enjoyed our ScootFit session at Woodhall…so much so that we want to raise money for our own set of scooters! ScootFit is a sporting activity using push scooters to improve health and fitness. Scooting helps develop and improve agility, balance, co-ordination, muscle strength and endurance. What a fantastic way to get children active! Please see the letters and sponsorship forms that will be sent home this week. We can’t wait to get scooting! Have a look for yourself…
