Modern Foreign Languages at Woodhall
At Woodhall, all children in Key Stage 2 are introduced to Spanish as a Modern Foreign Language. Learning a language helps children develop curiosity, confidence, and a passion for speaking and listening. They learn to communicate effectively, appreciate a range of cultures and understand their place in a global community. Our interactive and engaging approach fosters resilience, creativity and collaboration, preparing pupils for further language study and life beyond Woodhall.
BBC Key Stage 2 Here are some of our amazing Home Learning Projects! We really enjoyed making Christmas cards for the elderly residents of Hertfordshire. In history, we have been learning about significant historical events. In Science we have been finding out about the life cycle of a butterfly. We have been looking at Portraits in Art and have we sketched our self-portraits. We have been learning the 2, 5 and 10 times tables. Some of us have been busy solving word problems. We have been looking at List Poems and wrote our own versions of the Magic Box by Kit Wright. We have made Christmas cards for elderly residents through HILS, an independent living support service. We thought of the smiles on the faces of Irene, Sarajit, Mollie and the others when they open their envelopes! In English we’ve been reading the books and stories of author Allan Ahlberg. It might take us a while- he’s written more than 180 books and he hasn’t stopped yet! We’ve been inspired to write our own stories full of exciting old- fashioned action, dialogue, illustration and silliness! As part of our Project on life in the Stone Age, with help from some parents, we spent an afternoon outside building a Stone Age camp! We made a shelter, made racks for drying the fish we caught and the meat from hunting, built a fire, made stone tools, prepared animal skins, made baskets and went gathering food in the woods. We had a wild time! As part of our Science topic on Light, we researched and made super lighthouses for our creative homework project. The magnificent effort and support from our parents and carers is amazing! In Year 5, we have been learning about the Water Cycle. We made collages to show the different stages. Another one of our homework projects was to design a vehicle that will move? As part of our creative homework, we made models of buildings in South Oxhey. Can you guess what they are? Here is an example of a journal task from our new maths scheme. Look at the beautiful presentation. In English, we are reading the book ‘Holes’. We began by describing the setting, Camp Green Lake. In Year 6, we love to up-level our writing! We created a useful Synonym display to support us. In English, we have to master the spelling of many tricky words. In Year 6, we have been completing creative homework projects. One student even brought in her snakes to accompany her presentation on animals! In Science, Year 6 have been studying Evolution and Inheritance. Some of us made fossils from salt dough and Plaster of Paris. Many of us baked delicious fossil cakes too!
